Yoshio joined former Mitsui Bank in 1985, and has been activelyinvolved in project finance and international finance in New York andTokyo since 1995. As Head of Oil & Gas in New York project financegroup, his focus was oil & gas E&P companies in the US and hehas succeeded to develop new businesses with new clients. In Tokyo, hecovered such sectors as power generation, oil & gas, telecom,infrastructure and pulp and paper and others.
In addition to the activity in the bank, he was seconded to twoagencies. In 1998-2000, he worked for International Finance Corporation(IFC), Washington D.C. as Investment Officer in East Asia and PacificDepartment. During the two-year period, he completed several new andrestructuring projects. In 2003-2006, he was seconded to Nippon Exportand Investment Insurance (NEXI), a Japanese ECA as Group Head of Oil& Gas Business. In that capacity, he managed all oil & gasprojects all over the world in NEXI.
Following the SMBC’s adoption of the Equator Principles, he wasappointed as the first General Manager of Environment AnalysisDepartment in January 2006, because of his extensive career in projectfinance and MLA/ECA finance. He is responsible for social andenvironmental risk assessment for project finance and handles all theEquator Principles matters.
He has a BA from Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo and an MBA fromColumbia Business School, New York City.
