Richard Laing

Richard Laing is Chief Executive of CDC based in London. CDC is aleading fund of funds investor in private sector businesses in theemerging markets with a focus on Africa and South Asia. He isreponsible for the overall direction of the company, which has assetsof
£ 1.6 billion, and has portfolio responsibility for powerinvestments which constitutes a third of the portfolio.
Richard joined CDC in January 2000 as Finance Director. He wasresponsible for the financial affaris of the group as well as lookingafter part of the portfolio. He was appointed Chief Executive in 2004following the restructuring of CDC.
Prior to CDC, Richard spent 15 years at De La Rue where he held anumber of positions both in the UK and overseas, latterly as GroupFinance Director. He wa a non-executive director of Camelot plc. Priorto this he worked in agribusiness in developing countries and atPricewaterhouseCoopers where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.
Richard is a trustee of the Council of the Overseas DevelopmentInstitute, the UK's leading independant think-tank on internationaldevelopment whose interest focuses on growth strategies, foreign directinvestment, and business partnerships.
Richard is a graduate of Cambridge University where he obtained an MAin Engineering.
