After graduating in 1982 Richard joined the International BankingDivision of National Westminster Bank. He was working at NatWest’sProject Finance Group in London prior to joining AMRO Bank in1988. Following an initial spell as a Relationship Banker, he wasasked to set up a Project Finance Group in London for the Bank where hegained wide experience of working on UK and International projectfinancing particularly in the Emerging Markets. He was appointedas Head of Structured Finance in August 1996 and in February 1998became Head of Corporate Banking for the UK. In January 2001, heassumed the role of Global Head of Project Finance. In this role he wasinstrumental in the development of the Equator Principles, creating amarket recognised standard for the management of environmental andsocial risk within project financing. In May 2004 he wasappointed to lead a Sustainable Development initiative within ABNAMRO’s wholesale banking business. Richard is a Board Member of Forest Trends, a Washington basedthink-tank promoting market -based approaches to forest conservationand an Advisory Board Member of the Climate Group, an independent,nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing business and governmentleadership on climate change. He is a member of the UK’sSustainable Development panel. He holds a BA in German and a MBA from Durham University and is anAssociate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
