AGE : Born in Johannesburg, 22 July 1937. MARITAL STATUS : Married September 1967. Two sons. EDUCATION : B.A., LL.B. (Wits) (Cum Laude) Winning several academic prizes and awards. Higher Diploma Income Tax (Wits). CAREER : 1961 - 1964 : Practised as an Attorney. 1965 - 1979 : Practised as an Advocate, being appointed Senior Counsel in 1975. : Specialised as a commercial lawyer. 1977 : First appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of South Africa.
1980 : Resigned judicial appointment and entered commerce. CORPORATE APPOINTMENTS : Chairman of Brait Societe Anonyme, Luxembourg being the holding company of the largest private equity business in Africa listed on the Luxembourg, London and Johannesburg Stock Exchanges.

Mervyn King is a Senior Counsel and former judge of the Supreme Court of South Africa. He has chaired and been a director of several companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, including First National Bank Holdings Limited, Capital Alliance Ltd, Metro Cash & Carry Ltd, Checkers, Dion, Stuttafords, Rusfurn and Frame Group Holdings. In South Africa, he is the Chairman of the King Committee on Corporate Governance, President of the Advertising Standards Authority and First Vice President of the IOD Southern Africa. He is presently Chairman of the Automobile Association of South Africa, Dunlop Africa Limited and Strate Limited and a director of JD Group Limited.
