John Hill
Adviser - Associates UK Independent Sustainable Business

John Hill is an independent adviser on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), business sustainability and stakeholder accountability. His main areas activities are stakeholder dialogues, training, and devising strategic approaches and commitment to business sustainability, as well as lecturing at conferences worldwide. He is a member of the Institute of Management, The Institution of Electronics and Electrical Incorporated Engineers, and a member of the Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), and a member of its professional accreditation Body. He read philosophy, politics and sociology, and holds an MBA from the University of East Anglia. He was a member of the Judging Panel for the UK ACCA Sustainability Reporting Awards in both 2001 and 2002. He is a member of the UK SERM rating agency Advisory Panel. He is also a member of the editorial board of academic publishers ERP, who publish Business Strategy and Environment. He has worked with a former colleague, Steve Hyde to develop are four stage practical approach to business sustainability (DAFA) involving Dialogue with stakeholders to identify issues, Awareness raising within a company, Facilitating action, and Accounting for changed behaviours. He trained originally trained as an electrical engineer with Eastern Electricity and has held a succession of senior management appointments within TXU Europe, formerly Eastern Group. He was the first Director of Norwich Energy Action campaign in 1989. He was appointed Environment Business manger for Eastern Group in 1994, and was the first Corporate Sustainable Business Manager for TXU Europe from 1999- 2001.
