Jeffrey Leonard

Jeffrey Leonard President Global Environment Fund Dr. Leonard is the President and a founding shareholder of Global Environment Fund. He is also the Chairman for the Investment Committees of GEF's key private equity funds. With extensive experience in economic policy, private equity and project finance, and energy and environmental infrastructure, both domestically and in emerging markets, Dr. Leonard assumes primary oversight of GEF's investment management function. Under his direction, GEF's emerging market investment funds have invested over 0 million in international private equity deals in the independent power, gas distribution, water treatment, transportation, consumer products, healthcare and forestry sectors. Dr. Leonard also has primary responsibility for GEF's technology investments specializing in the energy efficiency, industrial process engineering, biotechnology and computer software sectors. In this capacity, he is currently Chairman of the Board of Essex Corporation, an opto-electronic technology firm in Columbia, Md. He also is a director of the National Cooperative Bank, Aurora Flight Sciences, Athena Technologies, Measuring and Monitoring, Inc., Global Forest Products Ltd., Global Railroad Leasing, LLC and Sorbent Technologies. Prior to founding GEF, Dr. Leonard served as vice president for international development of World Wildlife Fund and The Conservation Foundation, and as a consultant to the World Bank, U.S. Agency for International Development, World Resources Institute, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He has also advised governments and international finance agencies throughout Latin America, Asia, and Africa on matters pertaining to the development and finance of economic development and environmental infrastructure. Dr. Leonard has served as Chairman of the Water Supply & Wastewater Treatment Summit of the World Economic Development Congress for 1995, 1996 and 1998 and has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of International Pepsi-Cola Bottler Investments. Dr. Leonard is the author of five books and numerous technical articles relating to world trade, technology development and global environmental industries. He is also Chairman of the Board of Beacon House Community Ministry, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families in northeast Washington, D.C. Dr. Leonard is a graduate of Princeton (Ph.D.), London School of Economics (MSc. Econ) and Harvard College (BA, magna cum laude).
