At age 47, Humbert Garreau de Labarre has a master’s degree inmanagement from Paris-Dauphine University (1983). Officer in the French Cavalry Reserves, he first started his bankingcareer in 1983 with Neuflize Schlumberger Mallet (ABN Amro Group)managing portfolios for high networth individuals. He later joined E.de Rothschild’s Private Banking team in 1988, wherehis mission is now twofold : develop”estate” consultancy (globalapproach to an individual’s assets such as will preparation,taxation,legal advice,etc…) as a complement to regular portfoliomanagement (1) while simultaneously broadening the department’s clientbasis (2). Close to a Swiss non-profit association which was created in November2003 in Geneva, to contribute to eradicating poverty by using marketmechanisms. Beside his activities he was active for the launching ,in 2005, of anInvestment fund “Saint Honoré Microfinance” with Blue Orchard(20M€), allowing private and institutional investors to contribute,through their investment, to the development of the entrepreneurialpoor in developing countries. He also organise conference on Microfinance in Paris. Wim van der Beek Partner Goodwell Investments BV Netherlands Wim van der Beek is the founding partner of Goodwell, amicrofinance private equity firm which aims to maximize social andfinancial value simultaneously. The Goodwell fund provides commerciallong-term capital and active support to entrepreneurial microfinanceinstitutions to accelerate their growth, build value and integrate theminto the mainstream financial sector, whilst maintaining their socialfocus. The objective is to maximize value through superiorrisk-adjusted social and financial returns, by focussing onscalability, efficiency and leverage, and by applying a rigorousprivate equity approach within a mission driven setting. Goodwell’sinitial geographic focus is India, and the fund is managed by aDutch-Indian joint venture. The team in India is lead by Vineet Rai,who also manages Aavishkaar India Micro Venture Capital Fund. In the first half of his career, Wim has learned “the art” of bringingtogether people, processes and knowledge to create benefit and value atPricewaterhouseCoopers. As an international tax partner in thefinancial services practice he has worked with institutional investors,corporate clients, banks and private clients on a diverse range offinancial structures, cross-border investments, M& A processes,investment funds, private equity and product development. Within PwCand outside the firm, he fulfilled various knowledge management andlecturing roles, and editorial board memberships. Wim left PwC for abrief stint at a financial engineering boutique that he co-founded. Hethen embarked on a sabbatical journey through 7 academic fields at 7 ofEurope’s oldest universities. On his travels, he came into touch withmicrofinance pioneers and found his destination in sustainable finance.He then decided to launch Goodwell to create sustainable value and helpbuild bridges between the microfinance area and the mainstreamfinancial services industry. He is married, with two children, and he lives near Amsterdam.
