Howard Pearce

Howard has been Head of Environmental Finance and Pension FundManagement for the UK’s Environment Agency since 2003. Prior tothis he was Head of Corporate Planning. He has B.Sc in Zoology.
He is responsible for the Agency’s influencing work with the financeand business sectors, and the governance, administration and investmentmanagement of the Agency’s £1.3bn (2bn Euro) Active Pension Fund,the 20th largest in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), one ofthe most solvent (94%) in the LGPS family.

Over the last 3 years Howard has developed and implemented aninnovative financially and environmentally responsible investmentstrategy which has involved re-tendering the management of the entirepension fund via 10 new mandates with specific financial targets andenvironmental requirements.
In late 2005 the Environment Agency Active Fund was named as PublicPension Fund by Global Money Management and it also won the SRI Fund ofthe Year and Corporate Governance Awards from IPE journal and the LocalGovernment Chronicle. In 2006 the Environment Agency was highlycommended by the City of London Corporation for its work on Social andEthical Investment and Sustainable Asset Management.
