Henk de Bruin
Manager of Corporate Environmental & Energy Office - Philips International BV
In December 2002 Henk de Bruin was appointed head of the newly formed Corporate Sustainability Office of Royal Philips Electronics, a staff function focussing on all sustainability issues for the company. Prior to that he was heading Philips Corporate Environmental Office and he joined Philips as senior environmental consultant in 1988.
Reporting to the Board of Management of Royal Philips Electronics, Mr. De Bruin focuses on policy preparation, strategy development and implementation programs, as well as addressing Philips’sustainability performance as a brand asset.
At Philips, Mr. De Bruin has developed expertise on a wide range of sustainability issues, such as the various environmental aspects in production and product development, health & safety, social and community issues, automated monitoring systems, in and external reporting and verification.
As a liaison delegate of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, a cooperative of 160 multinational companies such as Royal Philips Electronics, Mr. De Bruin focuses on eco-efficiency, social responsibility, new businesses in emerging markets and sustainability reporting.
Born in the Netherlands in 1950, Mr. De Bruin began his career as a teacher in Chemistry and Physics at a secondary school in Rotterdam, after graduating from the teacher training college in Utrecht in 1971. In 1978, he became deputy director of the school, and from 1985 to 1988, he served as the director of this school.
In 1983, Mr. De Bruin combined his educational career with a study at the State Univeristy of Utrecht, and since 1988 he holds a degree as Master of Science in Anorganic and Physical Chemistry.
