In 2003, Bob established and funded Gray Ghost, a millionsocialinvestment portfolio focused in the field of microfinance. Bob's roleis as a "partner" to the enterprises he invests in and those who workwithin them, helping to emphasize the enterprise as a living, breathingprofessional community. Bob's role is also to invite others to coinvestin these enterprises, to find the personal fulfillment that comes withinvesting for both financial and social return. Bob also chairs The Rockdale Foundation (RF), a charitable foundationestablished in 1995 with his wife, Katy. Grantmaking is focused oneducation and microfinance, a "business-like, market oriented, and selfsustaining" response to poverty, with a commitment to the MiddleEast/North Africa as a place where the needs are great and theresources are relatively thin. RF is the founding partner of the Arabmicrofinance network, SANABEL. For the prior 20 years, Bob has headed property development businessesbased in Atlanta. In 1994, he founded Robert Pattillo Properties tofocus on the development of distribution centers across the UnitedStates and developed 12,000,000 SF over the life of the enterprise. Hewill complete the liquidation of the enterprise within 2004 to kdevotehis time and energies fully to Gray Ghost. Bob is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the Harvard Owner/PresidentManagement Program, and a past participant in Leadership DeKalb,Leadership Georgia, and the Regional Leadership Institute.
