Anthony Zola

Mr. Zola has 35 years of experience working in South and SoutheastAsia, focusing on agricultural, rural, and economic development in Laosand Thailand. He is one of the founders of MIDAS Agronomics,established in 1986. He has served in the position of team leader andchief technical advisor on numerous World Bank, ADB, UNDP, and ThaiGovernment studies and projects.
Mr. Zola is currently the Chief Technical Officer of the Centre forSocial Entrepreneurship, Mae Fah Luang Foundation. He also serves asthe Advisor on International Coordination at the Assets CapitalizationBureau, Office of the Prime Minister in Thailand. He is a consultant tothe Rockefeller Foundation undertaking research on “Enhancing UplandFood Security and Crossborder Agricultural Production Supply Chains inthe GMS.”
He has served in positions including Resource Economist, EnvironmentalPlanner, Project Director, Team Leader, Economist, AgriculturalCommodity Marketing Advisor, Agricultural Business Advisor, andAgricultural Economic Advisor. He has significant experience in projectformulation and evaluation as a resource economist, having workedextensively in water, land, and forest economics. Mr. Zola’sbackground consists of expertise and experience in environmentalplanning, natural resources and development economics, rural resourcemanagement, financial analysis, agricultural commodity marketing,information management, tree farm development, small and mediumenterprise promotion, and project formulation and evaluation.
Mr. Zola has a B.A. in International Affairs from the George WashingtonUniversity, Washington, D.C., an M.A. in Economics from SyracuseUniversity, New York, and a Certificate in French Civilization from theSorbonne in Paris. He has been engaged as a consultant by theRockefeller Foundation, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UnitedNations Development Programme, the Asia Foundation, U.S. Agency forInternational Development, Royal Thai Government, Government of Laos,and private consulting firms. Mr. Zola is fluent in spoken andwritten Thai, Lao, and French.
