Andy Ruben is vice president of Corporate Strategy/Sustainability forWal-Mart’s worldwide operations, a position established in Summer 2005as part of Wal-Mart’s drive to incorporate social and environmentalsustainability into its business strategies. Ruben began his career with Wal-Mart in 2002 as director of CorporateStrategy. He became vice president of U.S. Strategy in2003. In those roles, he gained familiarity across a wide rangeof Wal-Mart’s businesses and markets. Ruben’s office will be responsible for environmental sustainabilityissues worldwide. Wal-Mart operates more than 5,000 stores,Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets and SAM’S CLUBS in the U.S. and nineforeign markets on four continents. Before joining Wal-Mart, Ruben was a consultant with Cap Gemini Ernst& Young’s Strategy Practice, where he helped developed growth andplanning strategies for dozens of Fortune 100 companies. Ruben holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and an MBA -- bothfrom Washington University in St. Louis. He sits on the MBAadvisory board of the Sam M. Walton School of Business at University ofArkansas, where he also served as Executive in Residence in theschool’s management department. He is a founding board member of the Arkansas chapter of the JuvenileDiabetes Research Foundation and has spoken recently at some of thenation’s top business schools, including the University of Chicago,Northwestern, Washington University and the University of Arkansas’Walton School of Business.
