Andrew Vickerman has overall responsibility for corporate communications and community relations.

Born in Wales, Andrew has a BA, MA and PhD from Cambridge University. Prior to joining Rio Tinto in London in 1991 he worked as a development economist and as a consultant for international organisations, including the World Bank. Andrew travelled extensively for Rio Tinto on commercial negotiations in the early 1990s.

From 1994 to 1998, Andrew was responsible for finance, supply, personnel, community affairs, and investor & public relations aspects for the Lihir gold project in Papua New Guinea. He was a leading participant in the successful raising of US0 million in debt and equity for Lihir in 1995.

In his current role Andrew played a leading role in the Global Mining Initiative, a mining industry exercise focused on addressing the contribution of the industry to the transition to sustainable development.
