TBLI Award given to ICCR

Mr. Robert Rubinstein, Director of Brooklyn Bridge BV, handed the TBLI Award 2002 and a check for Euros 5.000 to ICCR, during the fourth Triple Bottom Line Investing Conference (TBLI 2002).TBLI is the yearly conference on SRI (Social Responsible Investing). Out of three nominees, ICCR won the amount of Euro 5.000 for their efforts to further the cause of sustainable investment. The other nominees where Transparency International and A2R.
The winner ICCR is a thirty-year-old international coalition of 275 Protestant, Roman Catholic and Jewish institutional investors with combined portfolios worth an estimated $110 billion. As responsible stewards, they merge social values with investment decisions, believing they must achieve more than an acceptable financial return. Using shareholder activism to influence company behavior, ICCR is the most active organization in America in the use of shareholder resolutions.
The other nominee, Transparency International, is the only international non-governmental organization devoted to combating corruption, brings civil society, business, and governments together in a powerful global coalition.
The third nominee was A2R - Profits + Conservation + Social Responsibility = Sustainable Developments. A2R focuses on investments in the sustainable sector in Brazil to help SME's recycle, renew, cleanup, reuse and gain an edge on their competition.

The TBLI AWARD

Every year Brooklyn Bridge, the organizer of the annual TBLI conferences, chooses an organization whose efforts further the cause of sustainable investment. Through the TBLI award, Brooklyn Bridge compliments and highlights organizations that have gained respect for their exemplary and superior performance in the field of sustainable business activity.
TBLI AWARD 2000 and 2001
The TBLI AWARD 2001 was won by Mama Cash. And the TBLI AWARD 2000 was won by Amnesty International.

4th Triple Bottom Line Investing Conference had largest turnout ever

With 436 guests, the 4th TBLI 2002 was the largest turnout for an SRI event, ever. This is particularly remarkable in the light of the extremely weak financial market. The conference seems to reflect the health of the SRI market. With guests coming from 28 countries and 5 continents, it was also the most international event to date. During the 2 day event, guests were able to learn about the latest developments in research on social and environmental performance indicators, SRI research, reputation risk, corporate governance and much more.
Sector meetings were held for the first time in Life Science, Energy, Chemical, Retail, and Transport sector. The leading companies presented there sustainability strategy, performance and goals for the future.

Carbon Neutral

There is growing awareness of the impact of climate change, and in
creasing evidence that human activity is partly to blame. Carbon dioxide [CO2] produced from the burning of fossil fuels is a significant greenhouse gas and considered to be responsible for rising worldwide temperatures. Brooklyn Bridge has decided that it is part of her policy to make all her activities Carbon Neutral®. She contacted Future Forests to assure this policy.
The Scolel Te Social Forestry Project in Chiapas, Mexico was chosen as the recipient of the money provided by Brooklyn Bridge to offset the co2 produced as a result of TBLI 2002. The Scolel Te project in Southern Mexico was the original test-bed for the Plan Vivo System. The project works with communities and small scale farmers in the state of Chiapas to develop socially beneficial forestry and agro-forestry systems. The project has been selling carbon offsets since 1997 and now involves over 400 farmers from 20 different communities. For more details about the Chiapas project, visit www.eccm.uk.com/scolelte

TBLI 2003

For 2003, the venue will be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on November 6 & 7, 2003. A mailing will be going out in early january for a call for proposals. Visit our web site www.tbli.org for regular update

BB has started the TBLI Academy that will offer in-company training to the financial sector on issues of all aspects related to socially responsible investment. Most financial institutions who have started offering SRI products, have found it increasingly difficult to gain acceptance within their organization. This dramatically slows down SRI growth. The TBLI Academy offers a program of acceptance, awareness, and action to speed the institutionalization of SRI.

One of the first courses on SRI, was given by Brooklyn Bridge at the Rotterdam School of Management mba program. If you want to know more, contact us at academy@tbli.org.

Cradle to Cradle

by William McDonough (Author), Michael Braungart (Author)

Environmentalists are normally the last people to be called shortsighted, yet that's essentially what architect McDonough and chemist Braungart contend in this clarion call for a new kind of ecological consciousness.
