Who is Brooklyn Bridge

My name is Robert Rubinstein and I am the founder of Brooklyn Bridge-TBLI GROUP™.

Our group pioneered the concept of "Triple Bottom Line Investing" (TBLI), a sustainable finance approach that takes into account financial, environmental, and social returns on investment. TBLI is based on the principle that positive financial, social, and environmental returns are not mutually exclusive - sound investments ensure returns in all three areas. In this context, we have played a key role in mobilizing private sector capital for sustainable development projects. We are knowledge brokers; making connections for companies and individuals from the old resource exploitation economy to the new sustainable economy by utilizing our extensive global network.

As part of our activities, Brooklyn Bridge-TBLI GROUP™ have organized eleven TBLI Conferences as well as sustainable finance training programs for leading banks. We have also provided annual sustainable finance courses to MBA students. Brooklyn Bridge operates as a resultant, and is hired to provide quick solutions to financial clients who want immediate action and a long term strategic solution. Due to our vast network of experts, we are able to mobilize talent in a multidisciplinary approach, extremely focused to achieve the maximum results in the shortest possible time.

The most recent TBLI CONFERENCE™ was held in Paris from November 15-16, 2007, and the next ones will be held in Bangkok on May 29-30, 2008 and in Amsterdam on November 13-14, 2008.



Mission


Our mission is to raise awareness of self-interest to institutionalize sustainable investment in the financial sector. We use the following tools to achieve those goals:

Project examples

 

TBLI CONFERENCE: The world's largest annual international learning and networking event on Economic and and Social Governance (ESG). During these two-day events, the latest developments on screening, auditing, reporting, SRI analysis, corporate citizenship, indexes and research are covered.
TBLI Conferences have been organized for nine years and emerged when we organized content for the EU’s first SRI conference in Lisbon. We presently offer two annual conferences: TBLI CONFERENCE™ Europe and Asia.

TBLI CONSULTANCY: We focus on achieving rapid results at the highest level of quality. Here are some examples of projects we finished or are in process of finalizing:

1. Carbon Disclosure Project: We were instrumental in getting initial commitments from the large institutional investors to join;
2. Investor Salon: Market making for sustainable private equity by introducing HNW (high net worth) and institutional investors (foundations, pension funds, etc.) to opportunities in sustainable private equity in a thematic format. Partner is a large wealth manager in Europe, part of multinational finance group;
3. Private Equity Cleantech Fund of funds: Created strategy and implementation for leading Dutch SRI fund in Europe to allocate a percentage of funds to cleantech private equity, within confines of small organization. Established external due diligence. (Client: ASN Bank, The Netherlands);
4. Sustainable Portfolio Management: Created strategy and assisted in the creation of sustainable portfolio management for a specialized private bank. Also helped create and host an event to introduce clients to the new product. (Client: Bank Insinger de Beaufort);
5. Financial Networking: Raised capital and found strategic partners for leading cleantech private equity funds, microfinance bonds, and green mortgages. (Clients: Expansion Capital, Fe Clean Energy, Chrysalix New Energy Fund, Developing World Markets, and Sustainable Capital);
6. 3IG: Four years on advisory board. Found new Secretary General and made connections for strategic partners, advisory board members and potential new members;
7. Stakeholder Management: Carried out research and wrote a strategic plan for world’s largest money messaging service. Carried out stakeholder engagement crisis program in 2006, to offset campaign by Privacy International. (Client: SWIFT);
8. Emerging Market Fund: Advised on the creation of a clearinghouse for SME investment fund in emerging markets. (Client: Andromeda Fund);
9. Inspirational Event: Worlds largest utility asked to find keynote speaker to challenge management and inspire new direction for company. (Client: E.on);
10. Sustainable Leadership: Executive Board briefing of leading financial institution on strategic relevance of extra financial investing or ESG. As follow up to that project, we established an international advisory board to help anchor sustainability as key investment opportunity for bank. The long term goal is to make the bank a leader in sustainability. (Client: Fortis).


TBLI ACADEMY: Offers in-company training for the financial sector about Triple Bottom Line Investing. Companies are seeing the financial opportunity of TBLI, but need to retrain staff with respect to all the risks, benefits and methodology of TBLI. Through Brooklyn Bridge-TBLI's vast network of partners, we are able to assist those clients in achieving their goals.

Brooklyn Bridge-TBLI GROUP Founder and CEO, Robert Rubinstein, has given hundreds of presentations, workshops, and speeches on the strategic importance of ESG (Economic and Social Governance) and SRI (socially responsible investing) to companies, academic institutions, non-profits, and faith organizations. The goal has been to raise consciousness with respect to the triple bottom line: People, Planet and Profit. He was also the first to teach SRI in an MBA-program. Recent training programs included:


11. Awareness Training Emerging Markets: Completed training for banks throughout South Asia on the relevance of sustainable finance. Banks included Central Banks of Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and leading banks in Thailand, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Indonesia. (Client: InWent);
12. Awareness Training Pension Fund: Hired to convince equity department to shift billion to SRI focus. Organized intense content driven training and awareness training. (Client: ABP);
13. Awareness Raising Stock Exchange: Gave one day presentation to convince leading Stock Exchange to create strategy on CSR and SRI, and to create CSR report and what products could be created. (Client: Euronext).
